Video: What is the key to staying healthy in training and still being fight ready?

With UFC officials recently announcing partnerships with both EXOS and Fusionetics designed around keeping the promotion’s fighters healthy, we decided to ask fighters what their opinion is on the best way to balance intensity and safety.

Should fighters be going all out in training? After all, UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez said, “The best way to get ready for a fight is a fight.”

Or should the often-heard mantra of “train smarter and not harder” be the principle that fighters apply to their pre-fight regimen?

UFC middleweight Kelvin Gastelum sure seems to think so.

“The old school mentality of training really is not working anymore,” Gastelum said.

Check out the video above, as Velasquez, Gastelum, Eddie Alvarez, Nate Marquardt, Gilbert Melendez and Charles Rosa give their thoughts on the matter.
