Matt Grice continues recovery from tragic accident, not ruling out UFC return

The last time we saw Matt Grice in the octagon, he was putting on a “Fight of the Year” candidate. As he battles back from a life-threatening auto accident, Grice hopes it’s not the last time he steps into the cage.

Citing his love for competition, Grice said he’s already hitting mitts and will soon be grappling again, as well.

“It’s part of what made me, I think, just to compete,” Grice told MMAjunkie. “I love to compete.”

A seven-time UFC veteran and Oklahoma City police officer, Grice was critically injured in an off-duty car accident on Sept. 8. Six months later, he continues to make progress as he recovers from a serious brain injury that left him in a coma for a month.

A four-time state high school wrestling champion who received a scholarship from the University of Oklahoma, Grice most recently appeared at UFC 157 in February, where he suffered a hard-fought decision loss to Dennis Bermudez. Both competitors won “Fight of the Night” bonuses for the effort.

Now involved in the fight of his life, Grice said he’s already made a “huge improvement” and isn’t ruling out a return to the octagon, no matter that doctors are predicting for now.
