UFC to Establish Official Rankings

Ultimate Fighting Championship officials Thursday announced that the promotion will institute an official ranking system for the first time in its history following UFC 156.

Collaborating with statistics provider FightMetric, the UFC will poll 90 media members worldwide, with the first poll beginning next week. When the final count is tallied, the results will be displayed on UFC.com.

Media members will cast their votes for fighters currently active on the UFC roster by weight class and pound-for pound. Champions and interim titlists will be automatically listed first and second in their weight classes and are not eligible for voting, though they may appear anywhere on a voter’s pound-for-pound list. Fighters can only be listed in one weight division at a time.

“UFC fighter rankings are a great tool for new and existing fans alike to learn and better keep up with the fast pace of the UFC,” said UFC President Dana White in the official release. “We always look for opportunities to engage fans and media, allowing them to connect and voice their opinions, and this just one more way of doing that.”
