Amanda Nunes: ‘Miesha Tate Has a Lot of Holes in Her Game’

Amanda Nunes: ‘Miesha Tate Has a Lot of Holes in Her Game’

Women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate had options after she choked out former titleholder Holly Holm at UFC 196 in March. She could have waited for a trilogy fight with inaugural women’s 135-pound champion Ronda Rousey, or faced Holm in an immediate rematch.

Tate didn’t want to wait around for Rousey; she wanted an opponent that she hasn’t faced before. That’s exactly what she got when UFC matchmakers lined up Amanda Nunes as her first title defense. Nunes thinks Tate made a big mistake accepting a fight with her.

“I have all the tools to beat you. I’m going to show everybody,” Nunes said to Tate during a recent press conference promoting the event in New York.

“I think Miesha, as a fighter, she has a lot of holes in her game. Her stand-up, ground game. I have all the tools to beat Miesha. She’s beatable. I’m going to beat Miesha wherever, stand-up or the ground game,” said Nunes.

Nunes is on a three-fight winning streak, and the 27-year-old Brazilian is determined to move from contender to champion when she faces Tate at UFC 200 in the T-Mobile Arena on July 9 in Las Vegas.
