Watch Davis vs. Garcia Premier Boxing Champions

Tank Davis, one of the two fighters, has a much higher level of experience and is, on paper, more well-proven than the other. At 130 pounds, he first defeated Jose Pedraza for the world championship in 2017. In the years that have passed, he has defended it, won another after losing that one on the scales, and won belts at 135 and 140 pounds to become the three-weight champion. Several of his rivals have recognizable names as well.

However, almost all of those battles since then have severe restrictions. Pedroza was a legitimate foe, and he undoubtedly won. However, after that, Tank faced off against opponents who were either unproven at the global stage or, in the cases of Yuiriorkis Gamboa and Leo Santa Cruz, both far past their prime and well over their ideal weight.

It's's safe to say that his most recent competitions have shown more. At 140 pounds, Mario Barrios is a respectable victory, and Isaac Cruz has also demonstrated his fighting prowess. Even his tune-up for this, against Hector Luis Garcia in January, was against a rival who had unexpectedly appeared last year and won two significant games, albeit one division lighter. Tank, who has been vying for titles for six years, is surprisingly light in terms of actual statement wins, and he could use one here to really dispel any skeptics.

Ryan Garcia's's( 23- 0– 00 19 KOs) experience might not seem all that dissimilar from Gervonta Davis' just by looking at the numbers. But he didn't become a pro until Davis won his championship. And a significant portion of that figure comes from the first 18 months of his career, when he faced 13 foes but was never challenged by any of them.

It really comes down to his last three opponents in terms of being able to demonstrate what he is made of. His knockout victory over Luke Campbell in 2021 was for an interim title of 135 pounds, but he was unable to convert that into anything because of his weight gain right away. He did demonstrate his ability to handle pressure there when Campbell defeated him in the second round before winning the seventh round on his own.

Additionally, victories over Emmanuel Tagoe and Javier Fortuna are reliable. He isn't particularly big, but between those three, he has shown that, even without a title to show for it, at least competing at the global level, his name belongs. Of course, Tank is a level higher, but it might be closer than it first appears.

One thing to keep in mind is that there aren't any titles on the line, which is unusual for a boxing competition of this size. Since Gervonta Davis' victory over Barrios was a while ago, he had moved on from that 140lb belt in the interim. However, the team's's insistence that the catchweight be 136lbs. puts his 135lbs title out of contention.

You should be able to tell what kind of show we're're expecting from the fact that this hasn't dampened the excitement for the fight. Belts or no belts, on Saturday we'll'll see two stars enter the ring.
