Video: Gilbert Melendez rolls with UFC women's champ Ronda Rousey

UFC women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey can’t stay off the mats for too long.

Recently cleared to train after knee surgery and rehab for her injured hand, Rousey (10-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) rolled with upcoming lightweight title challenger Gilbert Melendez in a Las Vegas gym.

What appears to be a friendly grappling session also sparks some quick and explosive moves from the champ, who nearly locks in her signature armbar. Check out the video above from MiddleEasy.com.

Rousey didn’t even need to use the submission hold when she last stepped into the octagon in July at UFC 175. Instead, she traded bombs with Alexis Davis before tossing her to the mat and punching until the challenger fell unconscious. The entire thing took 16 seconds

Still, Rousey didn’t come out unscathed, aggravating a previously injured knuckle and her knee.

Now, Rousey could fight Gina Carano at the start of the year if the UFC can strike a deal with the former Strikeforce star and movie actress. But she could also meet Cat Zingano (8-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) if the promised contender is able to get by Amanda Nunes.

And, as she recently told MMAjunkie, she’s happy to meet “Four Horsewomen” antagonist Bethe Correia (9-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) or Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino (12-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) – if the Invicta featherweight is able to drop 10 pounds and sign with the UFC.

Until her next move is set, Rousey will be preparing with whomever is game to tussle.
