LAS VEGAS – Two of the world’s top featherweights are set to fight when the UFC returns to Southern California in June.
Former title challenger Ricardo Lamas (16-4 MMA, 7-2 UFC) will take on Max Holloway (15-3 MMA, 11-3 UFC) at UFC 199. Promotion officials announced the new booking today on FOX Sports 1’s “UFC Tonight.” A middleweight bout between Hector Lombard Hector Lombard (34-5-1 MMA, 3-3 UFC) and former PRIDE champ Dan Henderson (31-14 MMA, 8-8 UFC) also was made official.
UFC 199, which is headlined by a middleweight title rematch between champ Luke Rockhold and ex-champ Chris Weidman, takes place at The Forum in the Los Angeles suburb of Inglewood. Main card fights air on pay-per-view with prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. In the co-feature, bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz puts his title on the line against heated rival Urijah Faber.
Holloway is ranked No. 4 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA featherweight rankings. Lamas is not far behind him at No. 6.
Lamas got back in the win column this past November in Mexico with a unanimous decision win over Diego Sanchez. Lamas’ title shot against then-champ Jose Aldo came in the UFC 169 co-main event, and he dropped a unanimous decision. He bounced back with a decision win over Hacran Dias and a submission of Dennis Bermudez at UFC 180, but then was stopped with a TKO midway through the first round in the UFC Fight Night 63 main event against Chad Mendes.
Holloway will put his division-best eight-fight winning streak on the line against Lamas. The Hawaiian hasn’t lost since a decision setback against current champ Conor McGregor in August 2013. Since then, he has six stoppage wins on his current run, including a bonus-winning submission of Cub Swanson. He went 4-0 in 2015 with wins over Cole Miler, Swanson, Charles Oliveira and Jeremy Stephens.
With the addition to the card, UFC 199 now includes:
