Next month’s WSOF 10 lineup has its third title fight, with a pair of 115-pound female notables fighting for the organization’s strawweight title.
Officials recently announced that reigning champion Jessica Aguilar (17-4), who’s widely regarded as the 115-pound division’s top female fighter, will take on respected vet Emi Fujino (13-7).
WSOF 10 takes place June 21 at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The main card airs on NBC Sports Network following prelims on MMAjunkie.
As previously announced, the night also includes featherweight champion Georgi Karakhanyan (23-3-1) vs. Rick Glenn (14-2), as well as David Branch (13-3) vs. Jesse Taylor (27-9) for the inaugural middleweight belt.
Aguilar looks to stay active and relevant as one of the lone top 115-pounders not scooped by the UFC for its newest weight class. The 31-year-old American Top Team fighter is riding an eight-fight winning streak, and in her most recent outing, the Bellator vet made a successful WSOF debut and posted a submission victory over Alida Gray to win the belt. Other recent wins have come over the likes of legend Megumi Fujii (twice), Patricia Vidonic (twice), Lisa Ellis and current Invicta champ Carla Esparza.
She now takes on Fujino, a 33-year-old vet who’s competed throughout her home country of Japan during a 10-year pro career. The Deep and Jewels vet was on a 4-1 run that included a pair of submission victories before a November decision loss to Mizuki Inoue. She competes for the first time in 2014.
Although Aguilar has 10 stoppages in 17 career wins, Fujino has never been knocked or submitted.
