Dana White: Wanderlei Silva is 'very wrong'

Earlier today, embattled UFC veteran Wanderlei Silva released a video suggesting his ongoing problems with the Nevada State Athletic Commission were “solved.” UFC President Dana White has since issued a statement suggesting that’s anything but the case.

“I’m not the athletic commission, but I think he’s very wrong,” White told UFC.com. “I think he’s in big trouble. You can not run away from a test. You can’t do it, and it sets a very bad precedent. He would have been better off taking the test and testing positive than running from the test. But I’m not a commission member. Maybe I’m wrong and he’s right. We’ll see what happens.”

Silva infamously dodged a random UFC 175 drug test this past month. He appeared before the Nevada State Athletic Commission earlier this week to discuss incident that led to his removal from the UFC 175 card and a planned bout with Chael Sonnen. Of course, Sonnen failed a test the same day and was also removed from the card, later electing to retire, as well.

Appearing with lawyer Ross Goodman, Silva explained the situation to the NSAC and then did a video interview afterward.

“I don’t use PEDs or steroids,” he said. “I have never used it, and I’ve never had any problems in that area.

“I have never failed a doping test before. I have nothing to hide, and I am glad we solved this.”

Of course, the NSAC has yet to declare the conflict resolved, and Silva is expected to brought before the commission at a future date to receive his final disciplinary order.

White thinks that Silva could be in for a rude awakening.

“(Silva) and I have always dealt well with each other,” White stated. “Running from the test is as bad as it gets, though.

“Basically the Nevada State Athletic Commission is the judge and the jury, and they’re going to handle it. Whatever happens, he will have his sentence and do whatever the commission says. Once he’s through that, he and I will be cool.”
