Can muay Thai create its own Ronda Rousey? Lion Fight 22's Tiffany Van Soest discusses

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey helped get women’s MMA to the next level and opened the octagon door for female fighters. Could muay Thai develop a similar star?

It’s a question we posed to kickboxer Tiffany Van Soest (11-2-1), who meets Bernise Alldis (35-3) at tonight’s AXS TV-televised Lion Fight 22 event, which takes place at Sunset Station in Las Vegas.

While Rousey has been the face of WMMA during its current popularity boom, Van Soest said it takes more than one fighter to benefit the sport as a whole.

“It’s just going to take some exciting fights … and some talented athletes,” Van Soest said. “And (it’ll take) a big personality. I think there’s strength in numbers. One person can’t do it, and Ronda has proven that.

” … Hopefully what I’m doing helps out with that.”

Check out the full conversation, which includes Van Soest’s thoughts on UFC champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk, above.
