While UFC 225 features not one, but two title fights, the official fight poster also features a bout between two fighters with a combined professional record of 0-2. Yes, you read that right… 0-2.
In fact, if you factor in amateur records, they are a combined 0-3.
That fight? CM Punk (0-1) vs. Michael Mike Jackson (0-1).
At the top of the UFC 225 bill in Chicago is a second fight between UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero. Filling out the co-main event slot is a battle for the interim welterweight title, as former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos squares off against the nemesis of his entire home country of Brazil… Colby Covington.
Those two bouts are still the highlight of the official UFC 225 fight poster, but Endeavor (formerly WME-IMG, aka the new owners of the UFC) saw fit to find a spot on the poster for former WWE champion and hometown fan-favorite CM Punk, despite his rather forgettable mixed martial arts debut.
Punk made his MMA debut at UFC 203 by being submitted Mickey Gall little more than two minutes into their bout.
UFC officials are surely hoping that Punk, having trained for nearly two more years since his catastrophic Octagon debut, can achieve his dream and score a victory in the cage. If he doesn’t, even with his popularity as a former WWE Superstar, Punk will likely be sent packing, left to shape his skills in a lesser promotion if he hopes to forge a career in MMA.
