SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Saturday’s UFC on FOX 22 event features the final fight for Urijah Faber, a longtime WEC champion and multi-time UFC title challenger who’s a true pioneer for MMA’s lighter weight classes.
Faber (33-10 MMA, 9-6 UFC) said his skills and health are still up to snuff, but he’s calling it quits after a legendary career that earned him fans across the globe.
Yet, back at Team Alpha Male, a top fight camp that Faber founded, his teammates aren’t worried about their mentor’s upcoming departure. Just as in MMA, they expect “The California Kid” to excel in whatever new adventures he pursues.
Or, as teammate and fellow vet Clay Guida said, “The guy doesn’t half-ass anything.”
Check out the above video as Guida, Cody Garbrandt, Hector Sandoval and head coach Justin Buchholz look back on the trailblazing career of their “mentor, teammate and friend” ahead of Saturday’s UFC on FOX 22 main-card bout with bantamweight Brad Pickett (25-12 MMA, 5-7 UFC), which airs on FOX from Golden 1 Center in Faber’s hometown of Sacramento, Calif.
