Tim Elliot Wins TUF 24, Faces Demetrious Johnson on Dec. 3

The Ultimate Fighter 24 gathered 16 flyweight champions from various organizations around the world to fight for a UFC contract and a title shot against top pound-for-pound fighter, 125-pound champion Demetrious Johnson. After 15 fights, a familiar face emerged from the “Tournament of Champions.”tim-elliot-tuf24-750

Titan FC champion and former UFC fighter Tim Elliot will face Johnson in the season finale’s main event on Dec. 3 at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

Elliot fought six times in the UFC from 2012 to 2015. He was released by the organization after suffering three consecutive losses. He last competed in the Octagon in February 2015, losing to Zach Makovsky by unanimous decision.

He won the Titan FC 125-pound title in July 2015 and defended it twice before joining the cast of TUF 24. He was seeded third by UFC matchmakers and finished his first two tournament opponents, Charlie Alaniz and Matt Schnell, by submission. A majority decision win over No. 15 seed Eric Shelton secured Elliot a spot in the final against fifth seed Hiromasa Ogikubo.

Elliiot defeated the Shooto Japan champion to earn a title shot against Johnson by pressuring Ogikubo and winning the grappling exchanges.  He defended submission attempts and controlled Ogikubo on the ground throughout the three-round fight.

“I know I’m the only guy in the house that can give Demetrious a legitimate fight,” said Elliot prior to taking on Ogikubo.  He’ll have the chance to prove it on Dec. 3.

“To get this opportunity is everything.  It’s what I’ve worked for this whole time,” said Elliot.

While Elliot upsetting Johnson seems to be a long shot, UFC president Dana White reminded the viewes that crazier things have happened.

“Tim Elliot will face the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world Demetrious Johnson for the UFC flyweight title.  I believe that everybody that comes on The Ultimate Fighter is a better fighter by the time they leave.  Tim came in here, and everybody he fought along the way were world champions.  Tim’s journey through this thing has been truly inspirational,” said White.

“Now he goes in against the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world and the world champion, Demetrious Johnson.  And it looks like an impossible task, but let’s not forget Matt Serra knocked out Georges St-Pierre coming off “The Comeback” season of The Ultimate Fighter.”
