NEW YORK – Saturday’s UFC 205 lineup has apparently lost one of its most anticipated bouts.
Kelvin Gastelum (12-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) today announced he was unable to make weight for his welterweight bout with Donald Cerrone (31-7 MMA, 18-4 UFC), and the fight is off, according to the fighter.
Gastelum didn’t formally weigh in at the early and official weigh-in ceremony. However, when Cerrone first showed up at the hosting New York City hotel, he told reporters that he heard Gastelum was expected to miss weight and that the fight would likely be pulled from the card.
Gastelum subsequently confirmed the news via Twitter, though he didn’t show at the weigh-in ceremony (via Twitter):
UFC 205 takes place Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York City, and the main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.
Cerrone vs. Gastelum was slated for the main card. UFC officials haven’t named a replacement for the PPV portion of the card.
This is the third time that Gastelum, who won “The Ultimate Fighter 17” as a middleweight in 2013, has missed weight at welterweight.
