UFC Fight Night 98 winner Max Griffin: I can take out anyone with one punch

MEXICO CITY – Max Griffin is a knockout artist, he reminded MMA fans of that with a 54-second knockout of  Erick Montano at UFC Fight Night 98.

Following his win, Griffin (13-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) told MMAjunkie the win over Montano (7-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC) at the event, which took place at Mexico City Arena in Mexico City and aired on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, was just an example of the kind of sudden stopping power he has in his hands.

“In my fights, I take the guy out,” Griffin said. “When I’m focused, I can take anyone out with one punch. I was going for the finish and it could happen at any moment. That’s what I’m going for, any second I want the finish. I don’t plan to go to decision, I plan to take the guy out.”

The win helped Griffin rebound from a loss to Colby Covington at UFC 202. His past four victories have come by knockout with only one of the men he defeated in that stretch making it out of the opening round.

That, Griffin said, is the fighter he is, someone who never wants to see his fights decided by the judges.

“That’s why I’m here,” Griffin said. “When you look at my past fights, I finish people. I’m exciting. I don’t go in there and just screw around. I want to stop the guy. I don’t leave it to the judges. If it’s up to me, they’re unconscious.”
