Watch flyweight title challenger Henry Cejudo's dominant UFC debut at bantamweight

Henry Cejudo is pretty familiar with gold, and later this month he’s going to attempt to add some to his collection.

Cejudo (10-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) is a 2008 Olympic gold medal winner in freestyle wrestling. In the UFC 197 co-main event, he’s going to try to put some UFC gold on his resume when he challenges flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson (23-2-1 MMA, 11-1-1 UFC) for the 125-pound title.

UFC 197 takes place April 23 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. Johnson vs. Cejudo co-headlines the pay-per-view main card following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

It’s been an interesting path to the title shot for “The Messenger,” though. After missing the flyweight limit for his final two fights under the Legacy FC banner, he signed with the UFC. But for a planned fight against Scott Jorgensen at UFC 177, he had weight-cutting issues leading up to his time on the scale and had to be pulled from the fight.

Because of that, the UFC had him move up to bantamweight, where he made weight for a fight with Dustin Kimura at UFC on FOX 13 – and then steamrolled him for 15 minutes to stay unbeaten and win his UFC debut in December 2014.

After that, he went back to flyweight – and for three straight fights, he’s had no issues hitting the 125-pound limit. He’ll have to hit that number on the nose or lower against Johnson. But before he takes his shot at the flyweight belt, check out the last time he fought at bantamweight with his dominant win over Kimura in the video above.

Then don’t miss his title fight against Johnson at UFC 197 in Las Vegas.
