Nate Diaz thinks 'that title thing' is a fairy tale

After submitting Conor McGregor at UFC 196, Nate Diaz is at the highest point of his career. But that doesn’t mean he’s worried about a title shot – unless it means more money.

Diaz (19-10 MMA, 14-8 UFC) spoke to the crew on FOX Sports 1’s “UFC Tonight” and said he is perfectly willing to face McGregor (19-3 MMA, 7-1 UFC) in a rematch, possibly at UFC 200.

“It’s a real fight,” Diaz said. “People want to see it. When you get a real fight, people appreciate it. If he wants it and UFC wants it, let’s run it back. If not, whatever. I’m here to fight the best fighters in the world.”

Diaz took the fight at UFC 196, which took place March 5 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, on short notice. The notice played a part in the bout taking place at welterweight despite featherweight champ McGregor’s initial plans to challenge Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight title.

The initial rumors of a rematch suggested it would take place at welterweight again. Diaz said he’d be up for that, but he’d also like to take the fight at lightweight where he could be “ripped.”

He was also quick to brush aside concerns over a title shot, making it clear that the biggest fight to him is the one with the biggest impact on his bank account.

“I think that title thing is a fairy tale, man,” Diaz said. “These guys say they want the title … the best guys in the world make the most money. That might piss a lot of people off, but money talks.

“He’s a fighter. He’s doing his thing. He’s making more of a scene than anyone else. If everyone was speaking up then everyone would be making more. No one wants to stand up. I’ve been speaking up for years. They’re trying to quiet me down, but I beat their guy so they’re going to hear it now.”
