Next up, UFC Fight Night 85 winner Mark Hunt has revenge rematches in mind

BRISBANE – UFC heavyweight Mark Hunt would like to avenge all of his losses in the octagon, in no particular order.

After stopping ex-champ Frank Mir (18-11 MMA, 16-11 UFC) with one punch, Hunt (12-10-1 MMA, 7-4-1 UFC) said he’s looking to top fights to get him back into title convention, and it just so happens the major players provide a pathway.

“I’d fight any of the top guys,” Hunt said following Saturday’s night’s UFC Fight Night 85 at Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, which hosted the FOX Sports 1-televised event. “I could rematch any of those guys, (Junior) Dos Santos, Stipe (Miocic), the guy with the belt, Fabricio (Werdum).

“I’ve never lost a rematch, so I’d like to rematch any of these guys.”

Jerome Le Banner might have something to say about Hunt’s claim, having beaten the “Super Samoan” three times out of four, including two straight after a KO loss, in the K-1 kickboxing promotion.

But in Hunt’s limited MMA rematch history, he is 100 percent successful, having stopped onetime title challenger Antonio Silva after a “Fight of the Year” draw in 2013.

It would certainly be a feather in Hunt’s cap to reverse knockout losses to Dos Santos (17-4 MMA, 11-3 UFC) and Werdum (20-5-1 MMA, 8-2 UFC), who stopped him to win the interim title. A lopsided loss to Miocic (14-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) this past May was also a low point.

With another highlight-reel performance, maybe Hunt has earned the type of career capital that warrants a rematch. The only trouble is finding a break in his opponents’ schedules.

All three of Hunt’s targets are currently booked, with Werdum scheduled to face Miocic for the title in May at UFC 198. Next month, Dos Santos headlines UFC Fight Night 86 opposite Ben Rothwell, a previous Hunt victim.

So there could be a wait in store. Thankfully for Hunt, he’s ready any time.

“It doesn’t matter where they can party,” he said. “I can party anywhere.”
