In his first fight with Benson Henderson, Anthony Pettis won the WEC lightweight championship and delivered what became known as the “Showtime Kick,” running up the cage wall and leaping off with a kick that dropped the then champion. It was a moment that would be near impossible for anyone to top.
Then, the two men met in a rematch at UFC 164. Again, Henderson (23-5 MMA, 11-3 UFC) entered the cage as champion while Pettis (18-3 MMA, 5-2 UFC) looked to create magic.
Henderson had a knack for wriggling out of deep submissions, but Pettis needed less that a round to secure an armbar and add a UFC title to his collection.
Pettis will look to get back to his winning ways at UFC Fight Night 81 when he faces Eddie Alvarez in his first fight since losing the title to Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 185.
UFC Fight Night 81 takes place Jan. 17 at TD Garden in Boston. After early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, the remainder of the card airs on FOX Sports 1.
