Video: MMA media on what Duffy-Poirier cancellation means in bigger picture

DUBLIN – Joseph Duffy’s late injury was a stunner earlier this week, leaving Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 76 event without its planned headliner.

The repercussions were felt quickly by many on the card. Duffy’s opponent, Dustin Poirier, was left without a fight after months of preparation. And on the flip side, Paddy Holohan and Louis Smolka suddenly found themselves in a flyweight main event.

But while it’s easy to see what Duffy’s loss means to Saturday’s show in Dublin itself, we asked members of the international MMA media for their takes on what the loss of the Duffy-Poirier fight means.

And what it may wind up meaning for fans in Ireland is no Joseph Duffy fighting in his home country, absent an outdoor UFC show in Croke Park, one media member thinks. If Duffy gets big enough, like Conor McGregor, he might not be looked to for UFC Fight Pass-streamed events like Saturday’s. So fans in Dublin may have just missed their one chance to see Duffy fight in Ireland if the dominos fall the wrong way.

Check out the video above for the views of the MMA media ahead of UFC Fight Night 76, which takes place at 3Arena in Dublin and streams in full on UFC Fight Pass.
