Alexander Gustafsson Fires Back at Daniel Cormier Over Jon Jones Comment

UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier had some choice words about his upcoming opponent, Alexander Gustafsson, when asked about him at the recent UFC “Go Big” press conference in Las Vegas.

“I think that Alexander Gustafsson is a good fighter, but there are levels to this fighting and I’m just a little bit better than he is,” said Cormier.

But he is even more insistent when the subject turns Gustafsson’s fight with stripped champion Jon Jones.

Gustafsson gave Jones his toughest test to date when the two collided at UFC 165 in September 2013. The fight earned Fight of the Night honors and was considered the 2013 Fight of the Year. But Cormier is tired of hearing about the fight that “The Mauler” lost.

“Let’s stop talking about the fight that he lost and talk about something that this guy has done positive. And when you look at it that way, you guys know exactly what’s going to happen on October 3. He’s going to lose to me.”

Gustafsson responded via Facebook on Wednesday, and he doesn’t disagree with Cormier; at least when it comes to the Jones fight.

Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson“You know, I think he is right, DC is a very loving and humble person and he says what he truly believes,” said Gustafsson.

“This will be a test for me, to meet the Champion in LHW division, the rightful Champion without question and one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world??!??!

“I know have to work hard and be in excellent shape as DC is all year around. Right now I believe my weight is good 1 month before the fight, I used a nutritionist, so my weight cut could be as easy as DCs, I will not give him any advantage there,” he continued, before adding one bone of contention.

“With all of this said and no matter what DC thinks or believes, I will take that belt on October 3rd and once I have that belt, I hope you all stop talking how close I was getting it from Jon Jones and instead talk about my Earth-shattering win over Daniel Cormier for as long as you guys want.”

Cormier and Gustafsson top the bill at UFC 192 on Oct. 3 in Houston, Texas.
