Alex Chambers: I blew out my knee in UFC 191 loss to Paige VanZant

Alex Chambers was facing stiff odds heading into UFC 191. She didn’t get much help once the fight started.

Chambers (5-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) ultimately suffered a third-round submission loss to fellow strawweight Paige VanZant (6-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) in this past Saturday’s pay-per-view opener, which took place at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.

On Monday “Astro Girl” said a second-round knee injury “changed my game plan and what I could do” and slowed her for the final six minutes of the bout (via Instagram):

Chambers didn’t give any further details or a recovery timetable for the injury, but she said she looked forward to an eventual return to the octagon.

The 36-year-old Australian hoped to build off her upset win over 3-1 favorite Kailin Curran earlier this year. It earned “The Ultimate Fighter 20” cast member and Invicta FC vet a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus.
