UFC Welterweight Jordan Mein Retires from Fighting at Age 25

On the heels of 26-year-old UFC lightweight prospect Frankie Perez announcing his retirement following the biggest win of his career over veteran Sam Stout at UFC Fight Night 74 on Aug. 23, another promising young fighter has decided to hang up his gloves. On Wednesday, 25-year-old UFC welterweight Jordan Mein announced that his fighting days are over.

“I’m ready to transition to a different part of my life. I’ve been at this for 12 years, 10 years professionally, so I’m just ready to move on in my life.” Mein gold UFC.com’s Thomas Gerbasi.

The Canadian made his professional mixed martial arts debut in June 2006 against current UFC welterweight contender Rory MacDonald when he was 16 years old.

The Strikeforce and UFC veteran last competed at UFC 183 in January, losing by technical knockout to the seasoned Thiago Alves. Despite ending his career on a loss, Mein is content with what he accomplished in combat sports.

“I’m super happy with the way my career went and everything I’ve done in the sport, so I don’t really have that feeling of ‘I can’t retire because I haven’t done anything in my career and I don’t feel satisfied,’” he said.

“I do feel satisfied, and I’m happy with myself. I’m not coming to the gym saying ‘I made the wrong decision.’ I’m feeling good about the choices I made in my career. I think it would be different if I didn’t feel that way and if it was a forced situation.”
