UFC Fight Night 65 results: Alex Chambers pulls off comeback submission of Kailin Curran

ADELAIDE, Australia – After taking a beating for 10 minutes, things didn’t look too good for “TUF 20” contestant Alex Chambers.

Chambers (5-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) needed something big to pull it out, and that something came in the form of an arm provided by Kailin Curran (3-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC), who submitted to an armbar in the third round.

The strawweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC Fight Night 65 event at Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass.

The fight came to an end at the 3:15 mark of the final frame after Chambers transitioned from a kimura to an armbar, extending Curran’s arm and forcing a tapout. Only moments before, Curran looked as though she would whether the storm by adjusting her body positioning. Instead, she failed to pull free and allowed Chambers to finish the submission hold.

It was a perplexing sequence considering Curran’s performance in the first two rounds, where she mercilessly battered Chambers with straight punches and kicks. When Chambers tried to tip the scales on the mat, Curran kept her standing and continued to score.

The action was so one-sided in the second round, Curran’s performance justified a 10-8 round. Chambers, though, managed to survive. After a submission loss to fellow “TUF 20” alum Aisling Daly in the show’s finale, Chambers gets back in the win column while Curran remains winless in the UFC’s octagon after a debut loss to Paige VanZant.
