Ronda Rousey Named 'Most Dominant Athlete Alive,' Jon Jones Also Makes the List

Ronda Rousey is the most dominant athlete alive.

That's according to Business Insider, which published a list of the 50 greatest active athletes in the world.

"The 28-year-old has won every UFC fight she has fought, beating some of her opponents in less than a minute," stated list co-writer Tony Manfred in an explanation of the decision. "In the process, she has elevated women's MMA and made it a key component of UFC—something that was hard to envision five years ago."

The list-makers defined "dominant athletes" as competitors with "a skill level and talent that's well above that of their competitors." Rousey qualifies.

The UFC women's bantamweight champion (11-0) has only gone out of the first round once in her entire professional career. In her last bout, Rousey handled seemingly worthy challenger Cat Zingano in a grand total of 14 seconds.

LeBron James

Clocking in at second place was Cleveland Cavaliers forward and multi-time NBA champion and MVP LeBron James. Tennis great Serena Williams was named to the third slot. Soccer player Cristiano Rondaldo and sprinter Usain Bolt, the respective fourth and fifth slots, round out the top five.

The only other MMA fighter to appear on the list was Jon Jones, who is No. 18 in the rankings but in late April was stripped of his UFC light heavyweight belt and indefinitely suspended in the wake of a hit-and-run accident for which he is the prime suspect.

"The only thing that can stop Jon Jones is himself," the list-writers stated.

Two boxers also made the list. Fresh off his decision defeat of Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr., came in at No. 14, while 20-year-old world champion Claressa Shields was placed on the list's No. 40 slot.

Rousey is scheduled to next defend her title this August against Bethe Correia in Brazil at UFC 190. She is already a very heavy favorite to retain the championship.
