Jon Jones Released from Jail After Posting $2,500 Bond

Jon Jones Released from Jail After Posting $2,500 Bond

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was released from the Bernalillo Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque, N.M., late Monday night after posting a $2,500 bond.

Jones turned himself in to Albuquerque police a few hours earlier after a warrant was issued for his arrest in relation to a hit-and-run car accident that occurred on Sunday.

Jones allegedly ran a red light, hitting another vehicle and forced it into another car. After the accident, the UFC champion fled the scene. He was originally going to be charged with a misdemeanor, but that charge was later upgraded to a felony since he left the scene of an accident that resulted in an injury. The driver of the car that Jones initially struck, a young pregnant woman, suffered a fractured arm and wrist.

He did so without incident, according to the Albuquerque Police Department.

Jones is scheduled to defend his 205-pound title against Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 on May 23. UFC officials have yet to comment about Jones’ status and whether or not he will be removed from the line-up.
