Jorge Masvidal has made no secret of what he thinks of his Saturday assignment in Virginia.
Masvidal (28-8 MMA, 5-1 UFC) meets Al Iaquinta (11-3-1 MMA, 6-2 UFC) in the UFC Fight Night 63 co-main event, and the American Top Team fighter is on record saying he believes the matchup is a bit beneath him, given his experience level.
Masvidal admitted on Thursday that Iaquinta is “a talented dude,” but the matchup isn’t the fight he was hoping for. Given his previous foe was former lightweight champion Benson Henderson, maybe that’s understandable.
But then there’s the part where Iaquinta has been head hunting of late. The New Yorker, a “TUF 15? finalist,” has three straight wins by knockout. He stopped Rodrigo Damm in September. Two months later, he took out Ross Pearson in Australia. And three months after that, he tore through Joe Lauzon in Las Vegas.
Iaquinta’s recent results speak for themselves. Before he takes on Masvidal as a slight underdog Saturday at Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va., watch how the New Yorker took out Pearson in the video above.
Then don’t miss Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 63 card at a special time of 1 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1 following prelims at 11 a.m. ET on the same channel to see how Iaquinta fares in the co-headliner against Masvidal.
