The rivalry between “King Mo” Lawal and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson dates back to Jackson’s King of the Cage days in the early 2000s. When Jackson signed with Bellator in 2013, he said part of the reason he signed with the promotion was to fight Lawal.
After years of back-and-forth banter, their heated rivalry reached its peak in May when the two finally met inside the cage at Bellator 120. After fifteen minutes of fighting, and mostly Lawal taking Jackson down, the judges scored the fight for Jackson by unanimous decision.
The fight did little to resolve their longstanding feud. Lawal believes he won the fight. Jackson called for a rematch immediately following the bout, but the fight never materialized.
“They tried. I’m pretty sure they tried. Quinton doesn’t want to fight me. He knows better,” Lawal recently told MMAWeekly.com.
“I don’t think he wanted it. He asked me for a rematch. What winner is like, ‘hey man, even though I won, I want a rematch?’ What kind of sense does that make? He asked for the rematch,” Lawal added.
Lawal is open for a rematch with Jackson, but doesn’t think it will ever happen.
“They tried to, but I don’t think he wants it. That’s what it comes down to. He don’t want to fight me. He knows better,” he said.
Lawal faces Joe Vedepo at Bellator 131 on Saturday. He was originally scheduled to take on Tom DeBlass, but DeBlass was forced out of the fight due to a cut received in training. Vedepo accepted the fight on two weeks notice.
