UFC Fight Night 48 results: Ning Guangyou tops Jianping Yang, wins 'TUF: China'

MACAU – It won’t make anybody’s list of the year’s best fights, but Ning Guangyou (4-2-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) did just enough to win a unanimous decision victory over Jianping Yang (6-4-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC).

In the delayed featherweight tournament final for “The Ultimate Fighter: China,” Guangyou racked up scores of 29-28 on all three judges’ scorecards to secure the win.

The featherweight bout opened up the main card of today’s UFC Fight Night 48 event at The Venetian Macao’s CotaiArena in Macau. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass.

This was a tentative performance from both fighters, and one that drew scattered boos from the crowd in attendance. Guangyou seemed committed to a strategy of takedowns and top control, leaving Yang to try to work his striking from a distance on the feet, or else hope for submissions off his back.

After two close rounds to start the bout, it seemed like the outcome was still up for grabs heading into the third. Even then, neither fighter displayed anything resembling a real sense of urgency, with both apparently content to let the judges decide it.

Once they did, they seemed to favor Guangyou’s superior work rate and success with takedowns, as he got the nod to become the “TUF: China” 145-pound winner.

With the victory, Guangyou has now won two straight as a professional. Yang loses for the first time since 2010.
