Marina Shafir‘s plans for a dominant run at 145 pounds and helping to launch a new women’s featherweight division in the UFC took a hit on Sunday night.
Shafir, a longtime judoka who’s UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey’s friend, roommate and training partner, entered Chaos at the Casino 5 as a significant favorite over Amanda Bell.
However, once they entered the cage at Hollywood Park Casino in Inglewood, Calif., Bell pulled off the upset in remarkably quick fashion. Watch the end of the bout above.
Bell, a decorated amateur who nonetheless went winless in her first two pro bouts, continued her career turnaround and picked up the biggest victory of her career. The 26-year-old stunned Shafir with a left hook and then put her down with a quick barrage of rights and a few follow-up shots once her opponent hit the mat.
After the fight, Bell took to Twitter:
My night, my victory. Thank you Marina Shafir for taking this fight and everyone who supported and believe in me…. fb.me/2hp4oCoJp—
Amanda Bell (@TheLadyKiller00) August 11, 2014
Bell, who also knocked out Shafir’s “Four Horsewomen” teammate Jessamyn Duke in a 2011 amateur bout, has posted six knockouts and two submissions in her eight career pro/amateur wins.
