Another match-up has been added to the ONE FC: Reign of Champions card which already looks to be the best in the promotion’s history with Dubai-based lightweights Vaughn Donayre and Mohammed Walid set to face off on August 23.
Donayre is originally from the Philippines but now fights out of The Champion Club in Dubai whereas Walid hails from Syria but is based at the Kholoud Club which is run by his Father.
Donayre (7-1) made his name fighting in the Philippines where he won six straight fights for the URCC to establish himself as the number two lightweight in the country behind only ONE FC title contender Eduard Folayang.
Originally from the boxing heartland of Cebu he has a background in BJJ and has gone 1-1 since moving to Dubai, suffering a first career loss in his most recent fight when he dropped a unanimous decision to Australian veteran Gokhan Turkyilmaz.
Defeat is something which Walid (3-0) has yet to experience. The Syrian fighter is the reigning Dubai FC welterweight champion and has finished every opponent he has faced since making his pro debut in 2012.
He comes from a famous fighting family as his brother, Khaled Walid, is a pro MMA fighter with a record of 2-0 who holds a purple belt in BJJ and a black belt in Karate while the club they train together is owned by their father.
There are currently six fights confirmed for ONE FC: Reign of Champions, which is set for the World Trade Centre in Dubai and will be headlined by a welterweight title bout between champion Nobutatsu Suzuki and challenger Ben Askren.
The co-main event will also be a title match with Shinya Aoki defending his 155-pound strap against Kamal Shalorus. Featherweight champion Koji Oishi is also slated to face off against Eric Kelly, provided the Filipino recovers from the injuries sustained in his most recent bout.
