A bantamweight bout between division standout Urijah Faber and promotional newcomer Masanori Kanehara has been added to UFC Fight Night Japan, MMAWeekly.com confirmed with sources on Monday.
The 135-pound bout adds to the developing fight card, which takes place Sept. 20 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. FightSportAsia.com first reported news of the fight.
Faber (31-7) most recently got back on the winning track, dispatching Alex Caceres at UFC 175 earlier this month. The win came after losing his bid for the division title against then-champion Renan Barao in February.
Kanehara (23-11-5) is a rare case as a fighter making his UFC debut while coming off a loss. In his last outing, the Japanese fighter was disqualified for throwing his opponent out of the ring at DEEP: 66 Impact. Prior to the loss, Kanehara won six in a row.
UFC Fight Night Japan is headlined by a heavyweight bout between Mark Hunt and Roy Nelson, and will stream on UFC Fight Pass.
