UFC on FOX 12 results, photos: Dennis Bermudez batters, chokes out Clay Guida

SAN JOSE – First Dennis Bermudez (14-3 MMA, 7-1 UFC) beat Clay Guida (31-15 MMA, 11-9 UFC) on the feet, then he beat him on the mat, taking him down and locking in a rear-naked choke for the submission finish at 2:57 of Round 2.

The featherweight bout was part of today’s UFC on FOX 12 main card at San Jose’s SAP Center. The majority of the card aired on FOX following select prelims on UFC Fight Pass.

Bermudez had Guida in trouble midway through the first round, backing him up against the fence and launching several damaging knees in the clinch. With Guida bloodied and his right eye swollen nearly shut, Bermudez took his back and looked for the choke, but couldn’t get underneath Guida’s chin.

Guida managed to survive that round, but Bermudez resumed the onslaught in the second, taking Guida down, mounting him, then sinking his hooks and sliding the choke in as Guida rolled to escape. This time, Bermudez had no trouble getting the choke in, and Guida had no choice but to tap.

After the win, Bermudez reflected on the magnitude of the win in an interview with UFC commentator Joe Rogan.

“(Guida)’s going to be in the UFC Hall of Fame soon,” Bermudez said. “I’d bet money on that. To beat a guy like him, that’s something else.”

With the win, Bermudez has now won seven in a row in the UFC. Guida has now lost two of his last three.
