Mayweather and the CEO of his promotional business, Leonard Ellerbe, addressed the commission on behalf of the potential company.
The move comes on the heels of Mayweather leaving Golden Boy Promotions along with former chief executive Richard Schaefer in June.
The commission was complimentary of Mayweather’s conduct throughout his professional career in Nevada and appreciative of the revenue his fights rake in for the state. Speculation that the undefeated champion would be questioned about prior convictions or financial issues proved unfounded as the commissioners quickly and unanimously approved the application.
Mayweather is set to rematch Marcos Maidana on Sept. 13 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The contest will be televised on Showtime pay-per-view.
