Ultimate Fighting Championship officials Tuesday told the Las Vegas Review Journal that the streaking middleweight contenders will square off at UFC 178 “Jones vs. Gustafsson 2.” The pay-per-view card takes place Sept. 27 in Las Vegas and is headlined by a light heavyweight title rematch between champ Jon Jones and challenger Alexander Gustafsson.
Kennedy has won four in a row since coming up on the wrong end of a unanimous decision to Luke Rockhold in a bout for the Strikeforce middleweight title. The 34-year-old Jackson-Wink MMA product last competed in April, when he topped Michael Bisping in a five-round decision.
Romero, 37, has gone 4-0 in his brief UFC stint, with three of those wins coming by way of knockout. His most recent bout was the only one to go the distance, as the American Top Team fighter pitched a shutout against Brad Tavares in April.
