In the midst of two UFC events on Saturday, news broke that Chael Sonnen had failed a second random drug test in the span of five months.

Instead of allowing such news to detract from UFC Fight Night “Swanson vs. Stephens,” the UFC remained mum on the topic until the event’s post-fight press conference.

UFC President Dana White was not present at AT&T Center in San Antonio to address the report, but the promotion’s public relations director, Dave Sholler, spoke briefly on the subject.

“We are made aware that a second random test conducted earlier this month resulted in a positive test for additional banned substances,” Sholler said. “Chael will have an opportunity to appear in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission later this month, and through a statement released to the media, he has pledged to cooperate.”

Sholler went on to add that the UFC supports the guidelines set forth by state athletic commissions with regards to performance enhancing drugs.

“We will support the commission and continue to ensure that all UFC competitors compete on an even playing field free of performance enhancing drugs and banned substances,” Sholler stated.

MMAFighting.com on Saturday reported that Sonnen allegedly failed a second drug test administered by the NAC. Among the banned substances found this time around are reported to be human growth hormone, recombinant human erythropoietin, and human chorionic gonadotropin.
