AUCKLAND, New Zealand – He didn’t get the victory, but James Te Huna clearly was the winner when it came to fighter walkouts at today’s early-morning UFC Fight Night 43 event.

Te Huna (16-8 MMA, 5-4 UFC), a native New Zealander, fought in his home country for the first time in his UFC career as he took on Nate Marquardt (33-13-2 MMA, 11-6 UFC) in the UFC Fight Pass-streamed headliner at Vector Arena in Auckland.

Despite entering the fight as a 2-1 favorite, according to the sportsbooks, Te Huna suffered a first-round armbar loss in the bout, which marked his drop from light heavyweight to middleweight.

Earlier this week, UFC representatives received a traditional “Haka” welcome by the Maori, an indigenous warrior people in New Zealand. Check it out below.

And check out a short clip of Te Huna’s walkout, which also had some local flavor, in the above video, courtesy of the UFC’s Instagram account.
