UFC President Dana White confirms planned meeting with Gina Carano

gina-carano-11.jpgUFC President Dana White will indeed meet with women’s MMA superstar Gina Carano next week, MMAjunkie has confirmed.

Carano (7-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC) dropped the news that she would be meeting with White in a recent interview with Arsenio Hall. And while the UFC’s head-honcho was surprised the information came to light, he confirmed Carano’s statements as fact.

“Interesting, I didn’t see that one coming,” White told MMAjunkie. “I’m meeting with her next week. That’s true.”

The 31-year-old Strikeforce and EliteXC veteran has not competed in an MMA bout since August 2009, but in her interview with Hall, she stated that the time is essentially now or never as far as making a comeback.

“I love (fighting),” Carano said. “It’s something I can do that makes everything else disappear. I dream about it. I just didn’t know if I was ever going to get an opportunity to make a comeback.

“So I’m either going to do it now, or I’m going to retire and say, ‘OK, I’m never going to do it.’ So now is the moment, I feel.”

White confirmed last month that Carano still owes fights on her current ZUFFA contract, but he was unwilling to divulge whether or not he intends to offer her a UFC bout at the meeting.

“I don’t know,” White said. “I think we’re just going to sit down and talk and we’ll see what happens.”
