Rousimar Palhares Random Drug Test Results Come Back Clean; WSOF 9 Bout Gets Yellow Light

Rousimar Palhares UFC on Versus 3The World Series of Fighting 9 main event between Steve Carl and Rousimar Palhares has a yellow light, which will turn green should both competitors meet weigh-in requirements on Friday.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission on Thursday informed MMAWeekly.com that the results of the random drug test that Palhares was required to undergo prior to the fight came back negative.

As such, Palhares will now challenge Carl for his WSOF welterweight championship on Saturday at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The bout will consist of five five-minute rounds.

WSOF executive vice president and matchmaker Ali Abdel-Aziz confirmed during a conference call last week that Palhares had been contact by the NSAC to take a random drug test for his fight. He had difficulty in getting the testing done in Brazil, so Palhares underwent the testing when he arrived in the U.S. last week, which is why the test results are just now coming back a little over 48 hours prior to the fight.

Palhares likely came under scrutiny by the commission after having tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone in the past.
