TUF China Finale results: Mark Eddiva easily controls, upsets Jumabieke Tuerxun

mark-eddivaMACAU – For a 4-1 underdog, Mark Eddiva (6-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) had a relatively easy night of work against fellow undefeated UFC newcomer Jumabieke Tuerxun (14-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC).

The featherweight bout opened the preliminary card of today’s TUF China Finale event at The Venetian Macao’s CotaiArena in Macau. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass.

After a three-year layoff from competition, Eddiva wasted little time getting to work. The heavy underdog kicked off the fight with a nice front kick to the face and followed with a crisp leg kick. He then closed the distance and kept Tuerxun either on his back or pressed against the cage while delivering a steady stream of punches, knees and elbows.

As with the first round, Eddiva’s side advantage allowed him to dictate the flow of the fight in the second. He fought off some early takedowns and then pressed Tuerxun against the cage, delivering some stinging knees and elbows while opening a cut on his forehead. Despite gassing late in the round, Tuerxun scored a takedown, but Eddiva quickly returned to his feet and continued his control of the Chinese fighter.

That control continued in the final frame. Eddiva easily handled Tuerxun’s takedown attempts, submission efforts and clinches to put himself in superior position. Tuerxun, who’s listed as 14-0 but claims his record is actually 30-0, simply had no answer to the constant pressure and Eddiva’s close-quarters damage. Tuerxun nearly secured a triangle choke and landed some subsequent elbows, but Eddiva survived the late scare.

In the end, the Filipino earned the unanimous-decision victory via 30-27 scores across the board.

“I felt I could I have knocked him out in the first round, but he was strong and a tough opponent,” Eddiva said. “In the second round, I felt I had total control. I felt my knees were hurting him and doing the job. In the final round, I felt I
was one kick away from knocking him out as both of us were tiring.”

Up-to-the-minute TUF China Finale results include:
