UFC Fight Night 33 Attendance and Live Gate Figures

UFC Fight Night 33 Poster RED 478x270The Ultimate Fighting Championship released the UFC Fight Night 33 attendance and gate receipts following Saturday’s event in Australia, which aired on Friday in North America due to the time difference.

11,393 spectators attended the event at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, resulting in gate receipts totaling $1.785 million.

Heavyweights Mark Hunt and Antonio “Bigfoot” Siva fought to a majority draw in the main event and earned Fight of the Night honors.  It was a back-and-forth battle of two heavyweights known for finishes.  While no winner was declared, a new Fight of the Year candidate emerged.

Former light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua rebounded from back-to-back losses in dramatic fashion, knocking out James Te Huna in the first round.   Te Huna pressured Rua, but Rua beat him to the punch.  A short left hand on the inside rendered Te Huna unconscious and landed Rua a $50,000 Knockout of the Night bonus.

Australia’s own Soa Palelei scored a first-round knockout over Pat Barry, while Ryan Bader dominated Anthony Perosh to win a unanimous decision.

The event turned out to be veteran female mixed martial artist Julie Kedzie’s final fight.  After losing a split decision to Bethe Correia, Kedzie announced her retirement via Twitter.  She had lost her last four outings.
