Caros Foder Staring Down Vuyisile Colossa in Run Towards One FC Lightweight Title

Following back-to-back losses in Strikeforce and the UFC, Northwest-based lightweight Caros “The Future” Fodor rebounded with a win over Seung Ho Yang at One FC 10 this past September.

Looking back on the win, Fodor admits that the fight proved more difficult than he anticipated and that winning was more the priority than looking good following his losing streak.

“I think I could have done better and tried for the finish, but he was a really tough guy, tougher than I thought,” said Fodor of Seung. “About half way through the fight, I just made the mental decision to just win the fight. Coming off of two losses in a row, a third would have just devastated me.

“I could tell he was tough and I didn’t want to waste energy going for stuff and gas in the third, so I made the decision to slow down a little bit. Other than that, I feel really great. It was a great experience over there in Indonesia and to be part of One FC and that.”

For Fodor, who has mostly fought in the continental U.S., travelling overseas to fight was a big change and presented its own unique challenges.

“Flying over there, everything changes,” he said. “I have a routine with how I cut weight, what I like to eat, and over there it’s completely different. You can’t get some of the things you can find at a grocery store over here.

“It was an awesome experience, though. One FC is just such a great organization. They take care of their fighters really well. They put you up in these awesome hotels and the food is just awesome, so it was a great experience.”

Fodor’s win over Seung has earned him a return trip to One FC on Friday, Dec. 6, in Manila, Philippines, against Vuyisile Colossa in a lightweight feature bout.

Fodor (8-3) was able to watch Colossa (6-4) firsthand as the two fought and won on the same One FC card in September.

“(Colossa and Kotetsu Boku) didn’t go to the ground at all, which I think is ridiculous,” said Fodor. “I thought Boku would have tried to take him to the ground, but he just tried to knock him out the whole time.

“I think I’ll bring more of a mixed game. He’s a good striker, had a successful kickboxing career, but I still feel he has an opposite ground game, a weak one. I want to keep him guessing.”

Looking back on last year, Fodor told MMAWeekly.com that it was basically a wash. So after having gotten back on track this year with a potential win on Dec. 6, things could very well be looking up for him in 2014.

“2012 sucked,” said Fodor. “This year I got to fight, I got to win, and I’m looking forward to 2014.

“My whole goal is to get the One FC lightweight title. I think I’m two fights away from that. I turn 30 in January, so I’ve got about five more years of competing, so I’m making my big run right now.”
