Watch Rousimar Palhares (again) hold onto a submission for too long

Rousimar Palhares‘ reputation as a dirty fighter isn’t going to get any cleaner after tonight’s UFC Fight Night 29 victory over fellow welterweight Mike Pierce.

Palhares, a leg-lock specialist, received a 90-day suspension in 2010 for holding onto a heel hook too long at UFC 111. He could be subject to another suspension following his latest bout.

In a FOX Sports 1-televised main-card bout, Pierce (17-6 MMA, 9-4 UFC) slipped out of an initial hold, but Palhares (15-5 MMA, 8-4 UFC) secured it a second time and forced a frantic tap-out and audible submission due to an ankle lock. However, even after the ref jumped in to halt the bout at the 33-second mark, Palhares inexplicably held onto the hold.

The entire sequence took just a few seconds, but with dangerous leg-lock submissions, it’s a few seconds too long.
