A trio of fighters from Wednesday’s UFC Fight Night 28 card in Brazil, including co-main event winner Ronaldo Souza, could be out as long as six months.
The UFC 163 medical suspensions, which MMAjunkie.com recently requested and today received, show “Jacare” needs an x-ray on his right foot and doctor’s clearance if he wants to return to action sooner than 180 days.
Along with Souza’s potentially long term, Jussier Silva could be out for six months unless a doctor clears his right foot following an x-ray. And preliminary card winner Edimilson Souza will need surgery on his right hand and a doctor’s OK if he’s to come back before six months are up.
UFC Fight Night 28 took place at Mineirinho Arena in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The main card aired on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and Facebook.
The Brazilian Athletic Commission (CABMMA) issued the medical suspensions, which covered all 22 fighters on the card.
In the night’s main event, light heavyweight Glover Teixeira stopped Ryan Bader in the first round not long after Bader had him in trouble. The TKO win for the Brazilian earned him the next shot at the 205-pound title against the winner between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson later this month at UFC 165. And in the co-main event, “Jacare” Souza stopped Yushin Okami in the first round. Before that, flyweight contender Joseph Benavidez may have booked a ticket to another shot at champ Demetrious Johnson when he shut down Jussier Silva in the first.
