Rosi Sexton vs. Jessica Andrade Makes History, Added to UFC Fight Night 30 in Manchester

Rosi SextonThere are a lot of firsts still to come as it relates to women fighting in the Octagon, but another milestone toppled when the UFC announced its first women’s match-up for one of its fight cards in England.

French-born Brit Rosi Sexton will square off with Brazilian youngster Jessica Andrade at UFC Fight Night 30: Bisping vs. Munoz on Oct. 26 in Manchester, England.

Michael Bisping squares off with fellow middleweight contender Mark Munoz in the night’s main event at Phones 4u Arena.

Sexton and Andrade have each already fought for the UFC, but neither was successful. Sexton (13-3) lost in her debut bout against Alexis Davis at UFC 161 in Canada, while Liz Carmouche stopped Andrade (9-3) at UFC on Fox 8 in Seattle.

This is a pivotal bout for both women, but perhaps more so for Sexton. At 36 years of age, her window of opportunity is considerably narrower than that of her 21-year-old opponent. The majority of Sexton’s career – she began fighting professionally in 2002 – has occurred prior to Andrade beginning her career in 2011.

The fight with Andrade also marks the first time that Sexton gets to fight in her hometown of Manchester.
