A light-heavyweight bout between Anthony Johnson (15-4) and Mike Kyle (20-9-1) will headline World Series of Fighting’s fifth event, officials today announced.
WSOF 5 takes place Sept. 14 at Revel Atlantic City in New Jersey, and the main card airs on NBC Sports Network after online prelims.
Tickets for the event start at $29 and go on sale Friday. It’s WSOF’s second event at the Atlantic City resort.
Additional bouts will be announced in the coming weeks.
Johnson, a former UFC fighter, is quietly riding a five-fight win streak with seven victories in his past eight fights. Most recently, the onetime welterweight took a fight at heavyweight and scored a decision victory over former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski in March’s WSOF 2 headliner. It moved the 29-year-old Blackzilian to 2-0 in the WSOF, which also included a promotional-debut knockout of D.J. Linderman.
He now takes on Kyle, who’s previously fought for major organizations such as the UFC, WEC and Strikeforce. After winning just one fight in his final four Strikeforce appearances (1-2 with one no-contest), the 33-year-old American Kickboxing Academy fighter recently scored a 21-second knockout win over Travis Wiuff at CFA 11 in May.
Combined, Johnson and Kyle own 24 knockouts in 36 career wins.
