UFC Champ Georges St-Pierre Barely Misses the Cut at World Series of Poker Main Event

Georges St-Pierre - World Series of PokerUFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre was in this year’s $10,000 World Series of Poker Main Event, but was one of the players that failed to make it beyond Day 1b of the tournament.

For those of you fluent in poker, shortly before the night ended, St-Pierre had pocket Kings and got check raised after his opponent flopped two pair with A-5 with an Ace high board AJ5. At this point, he had less than 10,000 in chips left.

After that, he went all-in with 10-6 suited and busted out in one of the last hands of the night. He barely missed surviving the first day (Day 1B) at the World Series of Poker Main Event.

This was a $10,000 buy-in for Sunday’s event in Las Vegas with St-Pierre sponsored by 888 Poker. It was the second consecutive year that he has played at the World Series of Poker.

“I am known as a very disciplined fighter, but also a very undisciplined poker player,” the champ told PokerListings.com, who caught up with him at the event. “That’s what I’m working on, I need to be more disciplined.”

St-Pierre steps back into the Octagon at UFC 167: St-Pierre vs. Hendricks on Nov. 16 in Las Vegas. He will put his welterweight title on the line against No. 1 contender Johny Hendricks in the night’s main event at MGM Grand Garden Arena.
