UFC Fight for the Troops 3 event targeted for Nov. 6

brian-stann-17.jpgLAS VEGAS – The third installment of the UFC Fight for the Troops event series is targeted for Nov. 6.

UFC President Dana White announced the plans during a Q&A session at Friday’s UFC Fan Expo in Las Vegas.

However, a host site and potential bouts were not disclosed. The Wednesday event, though, is expected to air on FOX Sports 1, the new cable home for UFC events, following prelims on Facebook.

To date the UFC has hosted two Fight for the Troops events. The first came in 2008 in Fayetteville, N.C., and helped raise $4 million for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. The second came in early 2011 and was held at Fort Hood in Texas.

Both Fight for the Troops events, as well as UFC Fight Night 7 (held at MCAS Miramar in California in 2006), were open primarily to uniformed military personnel.

If their schedules line up with the event, UFC fighters with military backgrounds – such as Brian Stann, Tim Kennedy, Liz Carmouche, Colton Smith and Brandon Vera – are porential candidates for the fight card.
