World Series of Fighting 3 generated $106,573 in live gate revenue on 1,107 tickets sold. A total of 1,394 free or “comp” tickets were issued for the event.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today received the figures from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
WSOF 3 took place June 14 at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The event’s main card aired live on NBC Sports Network following prelims on MMAjunkie.com.
The gate figure represents an average of $96.27 per ticket sold.
The card was headlined by former UFC standout Jon Fitch, a onetime title challenger in that promotion, in his WSOF debut against fellow former UFC fighter Josh Burkman. Though Fitch was a heavy favorite, Burkman clipped him early, then latched onto a guillotine choke that put Fitch out.
The fight has become controversial because Burkman felt Fitch go limp then released the choke, rolled Fitch over and stood up – essentially stopping the fight himself, well before oft-criticized referee Steve Mazzagatti was in to wave the fight off. After he came to, Fitch walked out of the cage while Burkman tried to track him down for a post-fight handshake before Burkman’s hand was raised.
World Series of Fighting’s first event, which took place in Nov. 3, drew a live gate of $82,608.22 on 1,499 tickets sold. A total of 4,076 comp tickets were issued. That event took place at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
