Renato “Babalu” Sobral Retires

Babalu

Following his 3rd round TKO loss to Jacob Noe last night at Bellator 96, Renato “Babalu” Sobral has retired from fighting. The loss dropped the 37 year old Brazilian Babalu’s record to 37-11 and marked his second straight defeat to end an illustrious career.

We here at MMA DIRT will surely miss Babalu’s combat style and fighting spirit. He will be remembered for his many ring wars, which brought him a Strikeforce light heavyweight title and made him the unsuccessful #1 contender for Chuck Liddell’s UFC title.

Best wishes to Babalu as he enters the next phase of his life, and we’re sure he will continue to stay active in some capacity within the sport of MMA as he lends his knowledge and experience to the next generation.
